NNAUK – AGM & TEEJ Festival celebrations
Nepalese Nursing Association U.K (NNAUK), held its 17th AGM on August 23rd at Golden Sip, with some nurses attending in person and others joining online. Secretary Praju Sapkota, opened the event with a health and safety briefing and a welcome speech. Asha Dhaugoda, Executive Member, presented the one-year educational activities, followed by Welfare Coordinator Binu Lamichhane’s report on other initiatives, and Rashmita Darlami provided the financial report.

Despite challenges, including many members falling ill and some issues, President Darlami led the AGM, which included amendments to the constitution and closing remarks. NHS England Director Vinice Thomas commended NNAUK’s contributions to nurses and the community, notably the recent handover of the Miteri Birthing Centre to the Nepal government.

NNAUK also Congratulated to NRNA U.K. newly elected Rajendra Pudasaini as president and Binu Lamichhane as woman coordinator; they expressed gratitude for NNAUK’s recognition and committed to supporting its initiatives through membership and outreach. They both are NNAUK’s life members too. Similarly, Suman Shrestha MBE a Consultant Nurse in Critical Care at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust and the Professional Lead for Critical and Perioperative Care at the Royal College of Nursing, UK was also appreciated for nominated as Honorary Ambassador of World Federation of Critical Care Nurses. Rashmita concluded the celebration by emphasizing that NNAUK has yet to reach many nurses and is in urgent need of support to expand its outreach. She called on the entire Nepali community to help raise awareness of NNAUK’s presence and services, stressing the importance of connecting with more nurses to ensure they receive the support they need before it’s too late, highlighting the collective responsibility to strengthen the community
network.

NNAUK provides help to Nepali individuals and families in the UK who may face challenges such as language barriers, financial hardship, or social isolation. Donations allow us to extend direct support when it is needed most.

Following the AGM, NNAUK celebrated Teej, a traditional Hindu festival, with a vibrant program led by Binu and Shreejana from the executive committee. The event commenced with the lighting of a candle by Respected Mrs Sarita Neupane Ghimire (wife of HE Chandra Ghimire, Ambassador of Nepal to the UK), and President Rashmita, followed by the national anthems of Nepal and the UK. The significance of Teej was explained to the audience, and
the celebration featured a soulful Teej song by Alpana Adhikari and an energetic dance by Binu.

The chief guest emphasized the importance of preserving culture with simplicity, and Rashmita expressed gratitude to the guests and sponsors, including Star Financial Solution UK, Hayes Mortgage, Medax OSCE academy, Bhatti restaurant, Raj Pandey, Thajeena beauty parlour Ealing Road and generous community members who contributed with donations and gifts.

The program also marked NNAUK’s 17th anniversary with a cake-cutting ceremony by the current and past presidents and concluded with live music from renowned legendary singer and a senior community nurse Sharmila Bardewa. Attendees praised the event for its authenticity, lively atmosphere, describing it as a family gathering that fostered community bonding. Rashmita highlighted that teamwork and dedication made the celebration a
success, reflecting the unity and resilience of the NNAUK community.
